Trips around Paraty

Boat trip:  A popular way to explore the most beautiful beaches and islands around Paraty is to take a boat. You can get a boat trip either in Praia Grande (with Leonardo) or in Paraty at the pier. In Paraty there are big boats which do tours with entertainment (around R$ 60.00 per person)   and there are lots of fishermen offering private tours. The private trip is the romantic option. They usually charge per hour (around R$ 60 in low session and R$ 100 in high session).

Saco de Mamamguá: natural reserve, indigenous community, beautiful beaches and nature. My recommendation for a special boat trip is to the Saco de Mamanguá. At Praia Grande, the boat man “Leaonardo” offers a private trip. He stops at several amazing beaches, finishing at the Saco de Mamamguá. The trip takes minmum 3 hours or longer if you wish. One hour costs around R$ 120 (depending on the season). However it really is worth it. It’s a gorgeous experience. Or go with the “Mamamguá Tour”. The tour costs R$ 120 per person. Ask us to organise your reservation.

Waterfalls: Cachoeira Penha, Sete Queda, Pouso Ingles. Go to Paraty, then drive 10 km up into the mountains following the sign for Cunha. Alternatively, you can go with an organized jeep tour. There is also a public bus from Paraty going to “Penha”.

Trindade Beach paradise, natural reserve, natural swimming pools, waterfalls, hippie village. Go to Paraty and head on 20 km into the direction to Tindade (BR 101 Santos) or take a public bus in Paraty (buses leave at the main station every hour, the ride takes about 35 minutes). You should do the wonderful walk to the natural swimming pools (around 45 min). Notice that in high session on the weekend it’s quite full.

Praia do Sono: peaceful, isolated and very beautiful beach, great for hiking. Go to Paraty and head 25 km further in the direction of Tindade (BR 101 Santos), then follow the signs going to Praia do Sono. Alternatively, take a public bus from Paraty to “Laranjeiras”. Arriving at Laranjeiras you either take a 3 km hike or a boat to Praia do Sono.

Ponta Negra: Headin past Praia do Sono there is a beautiful hiking track to the isolated fishing village Ponta Negra (6 km). It passes through the forest and along several isolated beaches and waterfalls. It’s an amazing trip!!! We recommed leaving early. In case you get tired, you can charter a boat back to Laranjeiras either from Praia do Sono or from Ponta Negra.

Paraty Mirim: An indigenous community and beautiful beach. Go to Paraty and drive 10 km further in the direction of Tindade (BR 101 Santos) until you see the street sign for the community. Turn into the street on your left and head on for about 5 km (partly dirt road). There is also a public bus leaving from the main station in Paraty – destination “Paraty Mirim”.

Quilombo: community of afro descendants. Go to Paraty and drive 15 km in the direction of Tindade (BR 101 Santos) until reaching the street sign for the community. Then turn right into the Quilombo. There is a restaurant serving Feijoada on Sundays and other traditional plates. There is also a public bus leaving from the main station in Paraty.
